Documents required to enter Singapore from Malaysia

Whether they travel with a visa or not, all international visitors, including Malaysian citizens, entering Singapore must possess the SG Electronic Arrival Card, an electronic document available online. The SG Arrival Card was introduced in 2019 to replace the old paper-based Disembarkation Card.

The SGAC has minimal requirements and can be requested in a matter of minutes entirely online. In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the SGAC also contains a Travel Health Declaration, mandatory for all visitors to limit the spread of the virus and safeguard public health.

Do Malaysian citizens need a visa to enter Singapore?

Depending on the purpose of their trip, Malaysian citizens may need a visa to enter Singapore. For trips of up to 30 days, nationals of Malaysia may enter Singapore visa-free. However, more extended stays or trips for work or study require a specific visa that travellers can request at an embassy or consulate of Singapore.

The SGAC is a mandatory requirement for Malaysians visiting Singapore, independently of whether they travel with a visa or not.

Singapore Arrival Card for Malaysian citizens

The Singapore Arrival Card for Malaysian citizens can be requested entirely online in just a few minutes. Travellers can fill out an online application form with the required information and submit their requests.

The SGAC is electronically linked to the applicant’s passport, and a confirmation email will inform travellers in Malaysia of the approval.

The length of stay in Singapore with the Arrival Card depends on the type of visa travellers have on their limit of stay for visa-free trips. Since the Arrival Card is independent from all different types of visas, it is valid for any travel purpose, including tourism, business, medical treatment, study, and more. It is important to remember that the SGAC does not replace a visa that may be necessary alongside this document.

The Arrival Card is valid for a single entry into the country. Entry must occur within the 3 days following the approval of the document.

What are the requirements to get a Singapore Arrival Card?

The Singapore Arrival Card was designed to have minimal entry requirements and supporting documentation, allowing almost anyone to request it online easily. Malaysian travellers who wish to apply for the SGAC must meet the following requirements:

  • A Malaysian passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry in Singapore
  • A valid email address to receive the granted SG Arrival Card
  • An active debit or credit card to pay the processing fee of the SGAC

Note: There may be additional requirements for travellers from Malaysia who need a visa to enter Singapore.

Apply for Singapore Arrival Card as a national of Malaysia

To apply for the Singapore Arrival Card, Malaysian nationals must follow a few simple steps:

  • Fill in the online application form, ensuring all details are accurate
  • Submit the necessary documents, when applicable (e.g. the biographical page of the passport)
  • Pay the SGAC processing fee

In the online questionnaire, applicants will need to provide the following information:

  • Personal details (full name, nationality, date of birth)
  • Malaysian Passport details (passport number, date and place of issue, expiry date)
  • Contact details (home address, phone number, email address)
  • Travel plans (travel dates, accommodation details)
  • Health declaration

Since the SGAC is linked to the passport of the applicant, it is necessary to use the same passport to apply online and when travelling to Singapore. Malaysian citizens who are dual passport holders should pay particular attention to this. Visitors' passports will be checked by border officials and there must be no discrepancies between the details on the SGAC and the ones on the passport.

After submitting the application, travellers should allow up to 5 days for processing. However, most applications get approved within 2 days.

All communications regarding the status of the application will be sent via email to the address provided in the online form. Delays can happen if the application form contains mistakes or incomplete information, so applicants should double-check the information provided before sending their application.

Other requirements for Malaysia citizens

  • They must have evidence of sufficient funds for their trip
  • They may need to show relevant vaccination certificates
